Non-cyber related incidents remain the leading cause of data loss events according to the ICO – meaning human error leads the way for data loss, including sending sensitive data to the wrong recipient, failure to revoke sensitive data before sharing, and misuse of Bcc. The message is clear; to meet compliance, organizations need to strengthen their email security and this requires a variety of tactics including employee awareness, data loss prevention, and encryption.
In our latest webinar, Rick Goud, Chief Innovation Officer at Zivver, and Jon Burt, Head of Enterprise Architecture at Manchester City Council, discuss the importance of aligning security solutions with business problems to implement right-sized security measures that support compliance by protecting sensitive data.
“Cybersecurity is not an IT issue, it is a business issue. And of course, IT needs to be involved. But too often I see in organizations that the IT department leads a project on data loss prevention, on secure email, and the conversation is different than if an information management or enterprise architect lead is involved, for example, because (...) a solution should always be the end point of a journey, not the starting point. A solution should solve your problems. But how can you identify the solution if you do not define your problems? I think that is why it's so important to involve the business, involve the CISO, DPO and IT. It's a multidisciplinary effort where each stakeholder should be aligned on the problem the organization should solve. And if you approach it like that, projects are tenfold more successful."
